5 Things You Didn't Know About Death Note

Number 1#

Deathnote series was written by TSUGUMI OHBA and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. Obata was asked from where the inspiration came from? his response was "there was nothing in particular. I started thinking some ideas and while these ideas were still floating in the back of my mind, I got more ideas to fill up detailed plots like the rules and the god of death and so on. Eventually, I thought there was enough material for a good story to tell."
There were many cases of real-life murders and copycat crimes which were based on 'Death Note'. On 20 September 2007, two notes were written in Latin character stating "Watashi Wa Kira Dess" a mistranslation of "I'm Kira" (Watashi Wa Kira Dessu) were found near the remains of a Caucasian male in Belgium. The case is called "Manga murd" is Dutch for "Manga murder", it was not until 2010 that four people were arrested in connection into the murder. There are more cases like in 2005 death note was banned in free provinces in China in the city of Beijing, the reason was that students were altering the notebooks to resemble death note and writing the names of their acquaintances and teachers in their books so that they die.

The original concept took deep consideration before it was finally implemented. The cold plug device of the story is "death note" itself, which is a black notebook instruction written inside, the book allows to commit murder by only knowing the victim's face and name. TAKESHI OBATA originally thought as the notebook as bible like something we automatically think was a death note, deciding that this design would be a cumbersome he instead opted for more accessible college notebook.

Death note was originally conceived based on the change of time and location resembling scrolls in older ancient Japan, however, this idea was never used.

The story of Death Note was originally introduced in a different manner, the story revolved around TARUKAGAMI, a 13 old student at middle school. Taro finds Death Note which was dropped as main story Ryuk, not knowing the English word for "Death" however, knowing the English word for "no" he assumed the book as a blank diary and takes it to replace the previously lost diary of his and story goes on from there. In the story plot rules for the death note is different from the manga series, with the existence of death eraser a special artifact that can erase the name of the person and revive the person kill by the death note.

The death note concept was not only taken into consideration the design of the characters took great attention. Takeshi Obata artist of death note had many suggestions Obha's design which lead to the final concept, Yagami Light was one of the easiest characters to design. Obata stated that he has no trouble in designing light as the character description presented to his by Obha's was a brilliant, honest student.

Obata said that he mainly used a lot of effort to design Light's wardrobe. According to Obata, it was difficult for him to imagine the clothing of a brilliant person so he looked for a fashion magazine. Obata visioned Light a small and formal guy with his formal shirts, most of the Light's clothing is fitted with jeans, Obata avoided jeans.

"L", Obha created L as a young adult as he believed the story would not hold much interest if L was significantly older than his opponent. With L's name, they wanted to use a single letter which held significance he can have used "I" or "J" but eventually chose L after careful consideration. Obha said that he left about L character design to Takeshi Obata, Obata asked Ohba if L could be unattractive, Obha included ideas in his thumbnail including L manner of sitting, his English, his inactiveness he added details about L's mannerism and his interest in sweets. Obata commented that L's thumbnail by Obha has bags under his eyes that he had a plain face of expression that is very useful. Obata initially drew L as a young unattractive man until chapter 11 when the character appeared in person after chapter 11 Obata and Obha agreed to contrast his appearance with Light.

"RYUK", Obata stated that he had difficulty in creating RYUK, he said that originally the idea of Ryuk consisted as of a young man similar to light with black hair and wings in his words he had an idea of  a Shinigami looking like a rockstar  however he thought that if Ryuk would look more attractive then light he would appear like the main character and things wouldn't work as well, Obata then decided to erase the previous design use the final design when his editor told that Ryuk did not have the appearance of a human. Obata said that he lacks the appearance of a monster and added that with his face you can never predict that what he is thinking.

"MISA", Obata made her appearance with unusual clothing and he wanted her to look like a rock and roll rockstar. When asked by Obata that "which character did you find most difficult to draw" he said Misa was that most difficult character to draw.

Taking into account remaining life span "REM" had long life span Misa inherited when she sacrificed herself that means Misa should have lived a very long life. Yet Misa still died after 7 years of Misa's death suggesting Misa has been killed by Death Note somehow as it is confirmed in death note that when a shinigami gives his/ her life to a human, the human will inherit shinigami's unused life span so it indeed likely that Misa should have lived a longer life. However, it is never been officially stated that she is been killed by  Death Note.

It is clearly stated by Obha that Misa likely fell into depression after knowing of Light's death. At the end of the animated series, Misa is shown standing on the rooftop of a building and then, after seen, is left for the audience's interpretation.
